We conducted our investigation of the Riverside Inn on Sept. 5, 2005. Four members of the NWPAH-UPIA attended the investigation. Rick & I met with the owner of the Inn, Marie Haladay a few days before, and she gave us a tour of this beautiful, magnificent Inn. And of course told us the stories of the alleged haunting. She said one of the most active areas is in an older part of the Inn that used to be an outdoor walkway. It is now inclosed. The men used to go outside to this area to smoke their cigars and pipes. Sometimes you might even catch a smell of this smoke. This is the area that a maintenance worker was sweeping the floor and heard some one with heavy footsteps coming down the stairs...when he looked, no one was there. Another time, in this same area, he had a woman whisper in his ear, "It's a nice day isn't it?" When he turned to answer ...again no one. He went immediately to Marie and quit. Marie also said that dishes are moved and pans fall from shelves now and then. Some of the wait staff has witnessed this, but they weren't there to question. Also, there have been reports of activity in the Ball Room. These two places are where we focused our investigation.
We set up the video camera with infrared night shot. We sat down and I tried to get EVP, but didn't
have any good results from that. We left the video camera running and went to the Ball Room. We took a multitude of pictures there, and also tried for EVP.
Although we didn't get any EVP in the Ball Room, we did get a few very good shots of some energy orbs. On the way back down the stairs, we all noticed it seemed cooler, and the EMF meter was reading high. Bekki mentioned that it was very dark. It should have been lit up a little from the illumination light on the video camera. We
were all wondering what was going on, the video camera light was not on. Rick went right to the camera and noticed it was completely shut off.... That gave us goose bumps! But we all couldn't wait to look at the tape to see what it might have caught before it went off!! Rick turned it back on and we sat back down to just listen and see what might happen. We all heard, on 3 different occasions, what sounded like dishes, or pans, banging around in the small kitchen area in the back of that hallway. Pictures were taken in there, but they show nothing.Bekki and I swear we heard a man clear his throat on the stairs too.
All in all we were there about 3 hours, and we broke it down and went home. When we watched the video, about 5 minutes after we went to the Ball Room, a bright white orb came out of the kitchen area and flew right toward the video camera.That's what we see, and then the camera was shut off. We thought that was great!
Rick tried to take some still photos of that orb coming from the kitchen. The 3 pictures taken of that moving orb look strange, sort of a flat long rope with bumps at the sides. That is because it was moving so fast it was only captured in one frame of the film.
We are planning a return trip in the spring. We want to stay the night and do a more complete investigation.
